Health and Safety Policy for Egham Removals
Policy Statement: Egham Removals is committed to protecting the health, safety and welfare of all staff, contractors, customers and visitors. This health and safety policy sets out our approach to risk management and safe systems of work across our removal and moving operations. Our objective is to ensure that every move is planned and executed to reduce harm to people and to protect property and the environment. We will provide appropriate resources to achieve these objectives and will continually review and improve our processes.
All employees are required to follow safety instructions and to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions. As an experienced removal company, we maintain a culture where safety is integrated into daily work. Management responsibilities include ensuring safe equipment, adequate training, effective supervision and clear communication. The policy applies to all services provided by the company, including packing, loading, transport, unloading and storage.
Risk assessment is central to our approach. Before any job we will conduct a documented assessment to identify hazards associated with access, manual handling, lifting, use of mechanical aids, vehicle movements and environmental factors. Controls will be implemented using the hierarchy of control: eliminate, substitute, engineer, administrate and provide personal protective equipment (PPE). Supervisors will ensure that risk assessments are updated when conditions change or new information becomes available.
Roles and Responsibilities
The leadership team will appoint competent persons to oversee health and safety implementation. Team leaders and drivers must ensure that safe loading procedures are followed, that loads are properly secured and that vehicles are roadworthy. Staff are required to report hazards, near-misses and incidents promptly so that remedial action can be taken. Contractors and subcontractors working with Egham moving teams are expected to comply with this policy and demonstrate equivalent safety standards.Training and Competence
We will provide ongoing training covering manual handling, safe operation of lifting equipment, vehicle safety, fire awareness and first aid. Training will be tailored to roles and updated at regular intervals. Records of training and competency assessments will be maintained and reviewed. New recruits will receive induction covering our health and safety expectations, emergency procedures and reporting processes.Personal protective equipment will be provided where controls cannot sufficiently reduce risks. Staff must wear required PPE and maintain it in good condition. Equipment such as trolleys, lifting straps, ramps and tail lifts will be inspected and maintained according to manufacturer recommendations. We will not allow the use of damaged or unsafe equipment in operational tasks.
Operational Controls: To minimise the risk of injury and damage, we adhere to standard operating procedures for packing, stacking, vehicle load restraint and site access. Vehicles will be loaded to safe weight limits and positioned to reduce lifting distances. When working in customers' premises, staff will consider floor strength, stairway safety and any constraints that could affect safe handling. Where appropriate, mechanical handling aids will be used to avoid manual handling of heavy items.
Emergency preparedness is a key element of our safety management system. We maintain fire response plans, first aid provision and clear procedures for responding to accidents and spills. Incidents will be investigated to identify root causes and to implement corrective actions. Lessons learned will be shared across the team to prevent recurrence and to promote continuous improvement.
Monitoring and review processes ensure that the policy remains effective. Safety performance will be monitored through inspections, audits, incident reporting and employee engagement. Senior management will review health and safety performance at planned intervals and following any significant event. This policy will be updated as necessary to reflect changes in operations, technology and best practice.
Commitment: Egham Removals is dedicated to fostering a safe working environment. Every employee has a role in achieving our safety goals and is encouraged to contribute ideas to improve procedures. By upholding robust health and safety standards across our removal services and moving operations, we protect people, safeguard property and maintain public confidence in our work.
